# Filter Search for Jellyfin > Filter Search is a free, open-source (MIT) plugin for the Jellyfin media server. It adds a search box, Select All / None buttons and a pinned "Selected" group to the longer lists (five or more options) of Jellyfin's library filter menu: tags, genres, studios, years, parental ratings, audio and subtitle languages. It works in the Jellyfin 12.2 modern web UI and in the Legacy Desktop display mode. - Website: https://jellyfin-filtersearch.rimsg.com/ - Source code: https://github.com/rimseg/jellyfin-filter-search - Latest release: 2.0.0.0 for Jellyfin 12.2 (older servers: 1.8.0.0 for Jellyfin 10.11.8+, 1.7.0.0 for 10.11.0 to 10.11.7 and 10.10.7) - Plugin repository URL for Jellyfin: https://raw.githubusercontent.com/rimseg/jellyfin-filter-search/main/manifest.json - Author: rimseg (https://github.com/rimseg) - Status: unofficial community plugin, not affiliated with the Jellyfin project ## What it does - Search box at the top of every filter section with five or more options; matches anywhere in the name, case-insensitive. - Checked filters move into a "Selected" group at the top of the section. - Select All / None act on the options that match the current search (for example search "night", then Select All). - Works in the default modern layout of Jellyfin 12.2 and in the Legacy Desktop display mode. - Lightweight: one script of about 27 KB (about 6 KB compressed) that only watches for the filter menu to open; filtering 3,000 tags takes well under 0.1 seconds. ## How to install 1. In Jellyfin open Dashboard > Plugins > Repositories and add https://raw.githubusercontent.com/rimseg/jellyfin-filter-search/main/manifest.json 2. Open the Catalog, install "Filter Search". 3. Restart Jellyfin, open a library, click the filter button and expand Tags, Genres or Studios. No file permissions or second plugin are needed since version 2.0: the script is added while Jellyfin serves the web client, and nothing is added to index.html on disk. Version 1.x wrote a script block into index.html; 2.0 removes it on first start if the file is writable (otherwise the block is harmless). Docker users who mounted a copy of index.html for 1.x should remove that mount. File Transformation is no longer needed by Filter Search but can stay installed for other plugins. ## Common questions - How do I search tags in Jellyfin? Install Filter Search; it adds a search box to the longer sections of the filter menu. - Does it work with Jellyfin 12? Yes, version 2.0.0.0 supports Jellyfin 12.2 in both the modern and the legacy layout. - Do I need chown or the File Transformation plugin? No, not since version 2.0. - Does it change my library? No. It only changes the filter menu in the web client; media, metadata and the database are untouched. - Does it work in native apps? It works in browsers and in apps that load the web client from your Jellyfin server; native apps with their own filter screens are not affected.
